Presiding Over Active Year As AREW President

Thirty five years ago, a handful of visionary women formed an organization that was the first of its kind in both New York City and the United States – the Association of Real Estate Women (AREW) – to meet the need for women professionals to meet, mingle, support, learn and connect with other women.

Today, AREW is the largest women's real estate organization in the city, with the highest industry profile as well as greatest longevity confirming that the basis of its founding remains as vital today as it did in 1978.

Witness AREW's programs to date this year: a winter networking cocktail reception at City Hall Restaurant in trendy Tribeca; a February luncheon featuring Rob Speyer, President and Co-CEO, Tishman Speyer in his first public address as REBNY's new chair; a March luncheon featuring the elusive Gary Barnett of Extell Development in an enlightening one-on-one interview conducted by Joel Leitner of The Leitner Group; and an exclusive tour of Barclays Center – all of which broke attendance records for AREW.

Reminiscent of the saying "The Queen of Everything," presiding over this year's seemingly non-stop series of programs and events is AREW President Lina Telese, Esq., a partner at Zetlin & De Chiara LLP, a leading construction law firm that provides innovative legal and business advisory services to the design, construction and real estate industries. An experienced attorney with a targeted focus on construction contract drafting and negotiations for sophisticated building projects as well as corporate matters, Telese has extensive experience with transactional issues related to national and international projects including infrastructure, hotel, residential, mixed-use, gaming, education and financial projects.

Having previously served as AREW's 2011-12 Vice President which turned into an 18-month term when AREW changed its fiscal year, Telese, as president, is involved in every aspect of every AREW event, no small task to begin with but greatly compounded by the demands of producing a first-rate gala. But she's up for the challenge. Lina is presiding over AREW's 35th Anniversary Gala along with gala chair Debra Cole of HLW which will take place on May 9th at Gotham Hall.

"We expect the gala to be one of the real estate industry's premier events of the year," said Telese. "Industry support for AREW and the gala's honorees has been extremely gratifying. It confirms AREW's position as an association of power and influence."

In addition to AREW's gala in May, upcoming are an AREW session at the Regional Conference of MBAs in Atlantic City which Telese will moderate; a gallery tour that will explore not only fine art but the niche area of gallery real estate; and the Annual Powerful Women Panel as the April luncheon program.

Lina's outstanding discipline, planning skills, industry knowledge and expertise all come to the fore in her role as AREW's president whose membership comprises a full spectrum of the industry.

"The multidisciplinary mix creates a stimulating dynamic of opinions, ideas, interests, expertise and opportunities," said Telese. AREW has much to celebrate this 35th anniversary year, having had a profound influence in elevating the status of women in the highly competitive, male-dominated field of real estate.

"After three and half decades of being the longest-running, most consistent and staunchest supporter of women in the industry, AREW has broken ground in so many ways that today, women real estate professionals assume all doors are open to them - and they would be right," said Telese.
