Introducing The Purple Hat Press

WHEN I WAS IN BUSINESS, my philosophy was to take a company forward. When I was elected National Junior Vice Commander, I wanted to come up with an idea that would improve MOPH. With the support of the National and Senior Vice Commanders, as well as the region commanders, we decided to launch a monthly Internet newspaper which we are calling The Purple Hat Press. It is our goal to increase the communications from the chapter level, so that all of MOPH can view your activities and accomplishments. We believe that The Purple Hat Press can also be used as a marketing tool to increase membership as well as advertising MOPH on Social Media. We fully support The Purple Heart Magazine and will focus on carrying pictures and short articles that were submitted to but not printed by the magazine.

This is how it will work. The Purple Hat Press will be digital. Chapters will send pictures/articles to their department commander, who will review and forward them to the Region Commander. The Region Commander will review, approve and send the material to a drop box to be retrieved, edited and inserted into the Internet newspaper template. When complete, The Purple Hat Press will be distributed by email to all Patriots registered on the MOPH web site

When submitting photographs, please ensure they meet these requirements:

1. Headline: Short and eye-catching

2. Description: 1-2 sentences that describe photograph. All photographs must have caption details specifying who, what, when, where and why.

3. Names: If photographs of people, list the names, left to right

4. Location: Provide the proper name of location (city and state)

5. Size: All photos should be digital and no larger than 2 MB

Many thanks to John Lloyd, our MIS Manager at MOPH HQ, who is the technical lead on getting this initiative up and running. Michael Mika, our external newspaper consultant, is setting up the templates for the publication.

We financed the The Purple Hat Press through donations from Patriots, chapters and departments. From all of MOPH's leadership, we thank you for your donations. This Internet newspaper is for Patriots and funded by Patriots. Our goal is to not use monies that we get from the Service Foundation, but still provide something new to the Order. If you are interested in donating, please make out the checks to MOPH with the notation Purple Hat Press and send them to MOPH HQ.

Our first issue was delivered mid-December. If you did not get a copy via email, make sure you have a current user name and password on our website. If not, use this link to reach the online registration form: http://www.purpleheart.org/RequestUserName- Form.aspx. The Purple Hat Press will evolve as we find ways to improve it from your feedback. It is our goal to publish an item within six weeks after its submission. The Purple Hat Press is your internet newspaper and the content and financial support you provide is critical to its success.
