Life, Liberty, And The Pursuit Of Perio

It’s been 12 years since the AAP held an AnnualMeeting in Philadelphia, and we’re excited to return to this historic city. We hope you can join your fellow AAP members and dental colleagues for four days of learning and collegiality, stimulating general sessions, nearly 50 continuing education courses,
and more than 150 exhibits. Here are just some of the things that are sure to make this meeting especially memorable.

Meeting dedicated to Dr. D. Walter Cohen
This year’s Annual Meeting is dedicated to Dr.D. Walter Cohen, a long-standing AAP member and Philadelphia native who has advanced the specialty of periodontics. With a career that includes leadership in academics as well as within the specialty, Dr. Cohen’s work has had an extensive impact. He currently serves as professor emeritus and dean emeritus of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He continues to practice periodontics in Philadelphia, in the same practice that was started by his father, Abram, more than 70 years ago.

Special Opening General Session featuring author of Getting More: How You Can Negotiate To Succeed in Work and Life.

You won’t want to miss the Opening General Session on Sunday, September 29, from 8 – 10 a.m. Following a brief welcome speech from AAP President Dr. Nancy L. Newhouse, the session will feature Stuart Diamond, JD (Harvard), MBA (Wharton), Pulitzer prize-winning author of Getting More: How You Can Negotiate To Succeed in Work and Life. And, just in case you needed another reason to attend, each audience member will receive a free copy of the book.

Professor Diamond’s negotiation model centers on the concept that the other party has to want to be persuaded; making a personal connection with the other party during negotiation has been shown to be much more effective than other widely used negotiation methods. His new approach is used all over the world by more than 30,000 former students including executives at Google, JP Morgan, and government officials such as the Minister of Industry in Lithuania and the Prime Minister of Latvia.

Food, fun, and The Beatles

Join the party at the Welcome Reception Saturday,September 28, at the National Constitution Center, a multimedia museum devoted to the U.S. Constitution. Attendees will have a private early entry at 5 p.m. – an hour before the reception’s start time – so they can tour the museum and enjoy the exhibits before the event is underway. Enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and dancing to The Beatles’ cover band The Return.
