This workshop will pres-ent effective strategies, developed in a wide variety of settings, to connect people in friendships with com-munity members and increase community belonging and membership. Janicki, PhD, and Seth M. Keller, MD The National Task Group on Intellectual Disabil-ities and Dementia Practices will hold a special meeting to discuss the progress of its work and products, including a review of various potentially applicable screening forms and the technological and clinical practices used by agencies in delivering supports and services to adults with I/DD affected by various demen-tias. The National Task Goup is producing a national report which will (1) suggest a workable screen instrument that will help distinguish dementia-related decline from changes attributable to benign aging, (2) create an updated set of practice guidelines for post-determination health care and sup-ports, and (3) examine and recommend models of community-based support and long term care of persons with ID affected by dementia. The National Task Group’s effort is designed to correspond with the work that will under-take at the federal level under the National Alzheimer’s Project Act. fee: $20 lunch ticket Room: Governors IV Dan Habib will provide commentary on a work in progress, Education Revolution (tentative release in Fall 2011) as well as show a clip. Rachel Simon will provide background on her newest work, The Story of Beautiful Girl (release date of May 4), and will sign copies of the book.
