PDLO&#1d;W\OHUVWXWLQ#PHFRP Mark September 29, 2012 on the calendar for your 10th Anniversary Homecoming Reunion. Summer is upon us and my thanks go out to Dan Byrne , our lone contributor this quarter! Dan recently transferred from the USS Monterey (CG 61) and is now starting his first of two masters programs at the University of Maryland (Masters in Professional Studies in Leadership, Education, and Development) while the other is a MBA at the GWU. He will start his Company Officer rotation at USNA next year, which will be a two-year stint. Dan and Tyler Marshburn went to USMMA graduation and saw Mike Stuart , Matt Carter , and many other classmates -a great time for all. Dan will be living in Annapolis, MD for the next three years and welcomes all visitors! That’s the story and I’m sticking to it -drop me a line when you have a chance! Fraternally, Tyler I hope the summer months have treated everyone well and provided the opportunity to meet up with classmates. Many exciting events are occurring in our lives as three years have now passed since that sunny Graduation Day including job changes, becoming homeowners, spouses, and parents. Our lives seem pretty busy at times, but let’s not forget one another. I’m currently sailing in the Gulf of Mexico as 2/M on the Seabulk Trader . David Poulnot was sailing on the SR Wilmington for SeaRiver. As we hailed each other on the VHF radio it would always bring back memories of our simulator classes and CAORF. David’s ship has been sold and he has taken a brokerage job with Petrobras working in their corporate office in Rio de Janeiro starting the end of August. David writes, “Beaumont to Rio…not a bad trade, right?” Another classmate overseas is Brittany Rossi who is on hiatus from Military Sealift Command to do some work in Africa for an organization that helps provide clean water to local villages. She is really enjoying it! By the time this article is published James Mirance should be back from his one year tour in Afghanistan and will have one year left on his orders in Washington DC. Jimmy also has the great news of being engaged. Vincent Lusardi is keeping himself busy working in Connecticut as a Ship Operator for Chembulk Tankers. Vinny got engaged last Christmas and is planning a wedding for next year to his hometown friend, Gemma Naclario. Vinny is looking forward to seeing everyone at our 5-year reunion which will be here before we know it! Michael Stuart checked in and is still working for Kirby. Mike also informed that he will be moving to Fort Lauderdale in a few months. Jarrod Prill finished his one year tour in Ramadi, Iraq in April. It was a joyful return and during his leave period he came to Orlando for a friend’s wedding. David Vasquez and I met him for a visit. Dave is stationed in Jacksonville completing helo flight training. Jarrod is still the same, only with more tattoos, and is working in Brooklyn this summer/fall and hopes to return overseas for another tour and more experience with the Army Reserve. If you’re in NY or Jersey be sure to look Jarrod up as he is always ready to party and already hosted several classmates. Bethany Tonachel checked in from the Overseas Boston while navigating the West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaii with 2/M Abigail Robson ’07. Beth is still with OSG and upgraded her license to Second Mate. After moving from St. Croix to Seattle last year and rooming with Kate Woods and Forrest Perkins , she recently bought her own home in Seattle with views of the Pacific. “Kate and Forrest celebrated their marriage at the end of May 2011 and there were tons of alums including Jessica Tutini , Linsey ( Becker ) Donnelly , Sarah Jones , Nick Brissey , Dustin Carter , Tamera Reul ’09, and David Gilmartin ’09.” Kristen Hatton and Chris Petty ’07 wed in the fall 2010 and Beth had the opportunity to see other classmates including Jess Tutini, Evan Denholm, Kate Woods and Forrest Perkins. Brittany Thornhill is back in St. Louis after a temporary assignment in New Orleans. She is a Port Engineer at American River Transportation Company and is responsible for ten boats. Brittany overseas repowers, kort nozzle installations, and general repairs. All that studying is paying off! Jennifer ( Davis ) Hays has had quite the shift in jobs since starting out with Kirby after graduation. She did a three-month trip with Mercy Ships on the Africa Mercy and saw Justin Ray ’06 and his wife. After the journey, Jenn moved to Fort Lauderdale to find a job working on yachts. After day one on the job she realized she needed a different job and began doing chart corrections at American Nautical Services. Jenn is currently a simulator operator working at AMO Star Center in Dania, FL. Several of our classmates and I have had the pleasure of seeing Jenn while taking upgrade classes at the Star Center. Alex Hays is sailing for OSG and bought a house last year to fix up in Plantation, FL near Fort Lauderdale. Jenn and Alex tied the knot on May 15 th this year in South Florida. It was a beautiful wedding and a pleasure to see fellow classmates: bridesmaid Amy Harman , Brian Stout , Dustin Carter , Daniel Hauser and his fiancée Katie. Josh Cox was unable to attend the wedding as he is completing his tour in Afghanistan, but it was nice to meet his wife Sarah. Josh and Sarah will most likely report to Camp Pendleton when he returns. Amy is in Charleston with the USCG and looking to attend grad school. Dustin was sailing for Crowley at the time on a ship running from Jacksonville to Puerto Rico. Dan is working for Bechtel Plant Machinery in Pittsburgh and preparing for his wedding. Nic Zoretic provided me with the following information, “ Margie Marino and I are still dating of course. I bought a house in Phoenix, AZ a few months back and just got a new job as a 2 nd Mate/ DPO with Noble Drilling and am working on the Nobel Globetrotter drillship. Margie is still working for Excelerate Energy on the LNG ships. I am getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan with my Army National Guard Transportation Unit this fall. Aside from that Margie and I are traveling a lot, golfing (yes, I got Margie into golf!), camping, and hiking.” Rita ( Dernar ) Tombros has been keeping herself busy while living in The Woodlands, TX. Rita and Michael Tombros wed in Texas and had their first child, Annabelle, last September and are expecting another. Rita loves being a mommy watching her daughter grow everyday! This past June they had a reception in Ohio which Margie and Brittany attended. Tim Scott , Erin Mitchell , Rita and I met for a visit last summer in The Woodlands. In April I had the pleasure of joining my sister, Becca Hoyt ’04, on a Tiger Cruise from San Diego to San Francisco onboard the USNS Washington Chambers. It was a pleasant cruise and quite the change not having to stand a watch. Other Kings Pointers onboard as officers included Nick Adema ’07, Jennifer Swanson ’09, and Michael Stocko ’10. I live in Merritt Island, FL and was glad to be home in KINGS POINTER / FALL 2011 / 109
