edible Marin and Wine Country Summer 2010 : Page 2
GRIST FOR THE MILL ® PUBLISHER AND EDITOR IN CHIEF Gibson Thomas Welcome to the first anniversary issue of edible Marin & Wine Country. What an extraordinary year it has been. One filled with hard work, but also moments of pure joy too numerous to count and a daily sense that this magazine’s mission— to bring you the stories of the amazing local food and wine producers of Marin, Napa and Sonoma counties, season by season—is worthy of all that hard work. Of course, I could not publish the magazine without the contributions of so many people, including the many talented writers, photographers, editors and designers who help bring you each issue, as well as the incredibly generous com- munity of other Edible publishers across the US and in Canada, and my family and friends. And to our advertisers I give great and heartfelt thanks for your support. Without you, these important stories would remain unwritten and unpublished. It is wonderful to be able to spread the good word to 20,000 plus readers each issue, but that does not happen for free. You are much appreciated. I encourage all of our readers to support you in return. Most of all, I want to thank the farmers, ranchers, cheesemakers, fisherfolk, winemakers, brewers and distillers of Marin, Napa and Sonoma counties, and the many talented local chefs and home cooks who recognize the quality and significance of the delicious fruits of your labors. For me, it is you that make living here incredibly special. You are the reason this magazine has resonated with readers so deeply. I have loved learning your unique and important stories over the last year, and look forward to many more. In honor of our first anniversary, the Marin County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed June 6-13, 2010, as “Edible Marin & Wine Country Eat Local Marin Week.” Check out our website or become a fan of the magazine on Facebook to learn about events at local farmers’ markets and restaurants that week which will celebrate “The Edible Bounty of Marin County.” Next up, Eat Local Napa and Sonoma weeks!
