NOTABLE EDIBLES CENTENNIAL COOKBOOKS Two cookbooks dedicated to the Arizona Centennial couldn’t be more different. On the one hand, we find 100 of Arizona’s top chefs contributing recipes to a colorful but tasteful compendium aptly entitled 100 Years, 100 Chefs, 100 Recipes . On the other hand, there’s a riotous mishmash of reminisces and recipes called Back Roads, Dead Cats and What’s for Dinner . 100 Years is the charitable project of PR exec Margo Kesler with a little help from the Valley’s top culinary writers and photographers, including Nikki Buchanan, Dawson Fearnow, Michele Laudig, Michael McNamara and John Ormond. State historian Marshall Trimble provides introductions and background. The 100 contributing chefs range from top toques to mom-and-pop favorites. Copies may be ordered for March delivery at 100years100chefs100recipes.com. Back Roads is a very personal memoir penned by Flagstaff ’s Jodi Marie Johnson chronicling “growing up in the olden days in Arizona and New Mexico.” Her humorous tales of the rural Southwest make you wish you were part of her warm extended family. The recipes are home-cooked favorites. For more information see backroadspublishing.com. Books are available at Changing Hands bookstore and at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. COCKTAIL WEEK DEBUTS, BEER WEEK IS BACK Arizona celebrates the cocktail from February 19 to 25 with educational seminars, tastings, specialty drinks at local bars and restaurants and a “Last One Standing Ultimate Shake Off.” The Hotel Valley Ho is the scene for two days of seminars and Grand Tastings featuring both local talent and some of bartending’s national stars. We’re especially looking forward to the Garden to Glass seminar. For tickets and more information, see arizonacocktailweek.com. AZ Beer Week gets the jump on Cocktail Week with a Strong Beer Tasting on February 18 at Steele Indian School Park. Then wet your whistle all week long at one of the over 150 beer pairings, tastings, pub crawls, brewery tours, classes and other special beer events throughout the state. There’s even a film debut ( For the Love of Beer , a movie profiling women brewers in the Pacific Northwest, at Film Bar on February 22 and 23). See AZbeerweek.com for the full schedule. 4 Spring 2012 EDIBLE PHOENIX www.ediblephoenix.com

For more information on the final lineup and to score a ticket (they'll go quickly), see Ignitephoenix.com/food.

SPRING FARM DINNERS

Farm to table, farm to fork, farmer in the house or whatever terminology you may want to use, spring is the time when many of the Valley's farmers pair up with their favorite restaurant customers to showcase their creations. Throw in a local winemaker and you have a local celebration.

Join grower Carl Seacat, winemaker Sam Pillsbury and Chef Michael Cairns for a special Leap Day winemaker dinner at Prado Restaurant at the Montelucia resort on February 29. We hope we don't have to wait another four years for the next one!

Producer Pat Duncan of Duncan's Trading Company once again partners with his favorite dining destinations for special dinners in April and May to raise funds for charity. Lon's, Zuzu Café, Binkley's, El Charro and Vincent Guerithault on Camelback are just a few of the hosting locations. Look for unusual heirloom veggies and Pat's presence at every dinner.
